Helen Zhang, FNP
After conducting biomedical research for several years at Marquette University and UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Haiying (Helen) decided to switch gears to nursing to directly help people. Helen obtained her BSN from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and MSN from Herzing University. She has worked as a med-surg/tele nurse for 6.5 years.
In the summer of 2023, Helen then started working at TMC as a float pool nurse on multiple med-surg/tele units. During her time at Tucson, Helen realized the high demand for primary care providers in the community. While conducting discharge teaching to patients, she frequently encountered patients lacking a primary care provider, which motivated her to become a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to serve the Tucson community as a primary care provider.
Helen is passionate about delivering holistic and patient centered care. “As a family nurse practitioner, I can forge long-term relationships with patients, taking a comprehensive approach to their well-being, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention,” Helen said. The NP profession embodies continuous learning, which aligns seamlessly with her background in biomedical research and nursing. Helen feels that being a Nurse Practitioner enables her to blend her research-oriented mindset with direct patient care, contributing to both individual and community health. She finds fulfillment in not just treating ailments but also in educating and empowering patients to make informed choices about their health.
Outside of work, Helen loves spending time hiking, cooking, volunteering, and traveling with her husband and her two kids. She is thrilled to be working alongside other providers and looks forward to connecting with and serving those who seek care at ACP!
