Collects and routes blood and other specimens and conducts in-office lab tests.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Other Qualifications: Candidates must possess one of the following: 1) diploma from an accredited phlebotomy program, or 2) a certificate or other verifiable proof of completion of hospital training program, or 3) verifiable proof of at least two consecutive years of phlebotomy experience.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of ACP policy and procedure in performing administrative duties to include medical record and patient confidentiality, specimen labeling and routing, ancillary referrals, documentation, supply and pharmaceutical ordering, consent forms and waivers. Maintains up-to-date resource materials (contract, ancillary and vendor grids; formularies). Maintains organized system for prioritizing and conducting lab tests. Maintains quality control logs and other records as required by OSHA/CLIA regulations. Assists with effective medical records management by accurately completing requests for charts, and out guide cards and returning medical records to file room expeditiously. Maintains supply stock in lab and overall inventory of supplies and pharmaceuticals.
Demonstrates competency in performing venipuncture, arterial and capillary puncture on patients. Performs routine blood and urine laboratory tests demonstrating knowledge of laboratory techniques and skill in making mathematical computations using standard formulas. Demonstrates competency in operating laboratory equipment and performing quality control checks. Manages patient flow with well executed arrangement of equipment and instruments. Demonstrates thorough understanding of OSHA/CLIA guidelines regarding universal precautions, bio hazardous safety and infection control. Demonstrates competency in utilizing medical office software relating to function keys, search and queries and appointment scheduling. Demonstrates competency in utilizing office equipment to include computer, printers, fax machine, photocopier and telephone system. Understands basic PC windows applications. Knows protocol for troubleshooting and reporting hardware and software problems.
